Lawmaker Plans Measure to Boost Medical Marijuana Diversity

By BRIAN WITTE, Associated Press

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The head of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland says she plans to introduce emergency legislation early next year to address the lack of diversity in companies chosen as finalists to be licensed to grow and process medical marijuana in the state.

Del. Cheryl Glenn discussed the plans Friday during a meeting of members of women and minority-owned businesses. Glenn says she plans to sponsor emergency legislation she hopes will pass early in the session and be enacted early next year.

The Baltimore Democrat says plans could include expanding the number of licenses allowed to grant licenses to minority applicants. She says “everything is on the table.”

Maryland’s medical marijuana commission has selected 15 grower finalists and 15 processor finalists.

Do you think the cannabis industry needs to embrace more diversity?
